🔬🧪From Test Tubes to Treatments: The Lab Tech Journey

⛈️ On August 29th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina slammed into the U.S. as a Category 3 storm. Its sheer size pushed a storm surge nearly 28 feet high, overwhelming levees in New Orleans and flooding about 80% of the city. That flooding caused the worst of the devastation, taking more than 1,390 lives and racking up about $125 billion in damages. Katrina remains one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes in U.S. history, a powerful reminder of how ocean heat, weather patterns, and vulnerable coastlines can collide to create disasters that reshape entire communities.

💡SKILLS SPOTLIGHT
Your Career Story: Past • Present • Next

💫💫 Opportunities land when your story signals direction. If your profiles read like “what I’ve done” instead of “where I’m headed,” recruiters won’t connect you to the roles you want next.
The 3-Sentence Career Story (STEM Edition)
Formula:
🔸Past: The kinds of problems you’ve solved
🔸Present: Your current focus + tools
🔸Next: he problems/roles you want to tackle
Example (Data/biotech):
🔸I’ve built analytics that improve lab throughput and data quality. Today I use Python, SQL, and Tableau to automate QC and surface actionable insights for R&D. Next, I’m focused on data analyst roles in biotech where I can scale pipeline reliability and decision speed.
15-Minute Story Audit
1) Headline (3 min) — make it a billboardTarget Role | Domain/Tech | 2–3 Keywords | Proof
Ex: “QA Scientist | qPCR, LIMS, GLP | Cut assay run time 28%”
2) About/Summary (5 min) — drop in your three sentences
Add a short bullet list of tools (exact keywords) and receipts (2–3 metrics).
3) Experience (4 min) — impact > tasks
Use: Verb + what + tech + measurable result
— “Automated QC (Python/Pandas) → cycle time −31%, saved $14K/qtr.”
4) Featured/Portfolio (3 min) — show proof
Pin 2–4: GitHub/Notebook, poster/preprint, case study, SOP you authored.
Optional polish: align Skills with phrases from real job posts; remove outdated tools you don’t want to be found for.
Mini Templates
🔸3-Sentence starter: I help [who] achieve [outcome]. I use [tools/tech] to deliver [metric result]. Next, I’m pursuing [target roles/problems] where I can [value you create].
🔸1-pager weekly update:
- Objective: business goal
- Progress: 1–2 wins with numbers
- Risks/Needs: blockers + asks
- Next: 2 concrete deliverables
🎯This Week’s Challenge
🔸Write your 3-sentence story and paste it into your LinkedIn About.
🔸Update your headline using the formula above.
Reply with your headline (or profile link) for a quick keyword/clarity check.

📅🔥CAREER GLOW-UP CHALLENGE:
The Thank You Note Campaign

🔥 Goal: To strengthen professional relationships, expand your network, and boost your own confidence by intentionally expressing gratitude through short, personalized thank-you notes.
🔥 Why It Matters: In the rush of deadlines, meetings, and projects, gratitude often gets overlooked. But here’s the truth:
🟠People remember how you made them feel, not just what you did.
🟠A thoughtful thank-you note (even just 2–3 sentences) builds trust, respect, and loyalty.
🟠Gratitude boosts your own mindset—making you more positive, motivated, and resilient at work.
Plus, thank you notes create “career glue”—they help relationships stick long after a project ends.
Outcome:
By the end of this challenge, you’ll:
✅ Strengthen 5–7 key professional relationships
✅ Develop a gratitude habit that supports your career growth
✅ Have a ready-made network of allies and mentors who feel seen and valued
✅ Boost your own positivity and confidence
Actionable Steps:
Day 1: Choose Your Recipients
Make a quick list of 5-7 people you want to thank. These could be:
🟠A colleague who supported you on a project
🟠A mentor who gave career advice
🟠A client who trusted your work
🟠A manager who advocated for you
🟠A peer who always brings good energy
👉 Don’t just go for “big names”—sometimes the quiet helpers make the biggest impact.
Step 2: Pick Your Format
🟠Handwritten card → Extra personal, memorable
🟠Email → Quick, still thoughtful
🟠LinkedIn message → Adds visibility to your gratitude
🟠Slack/Teams note → Simple and immediate
Step 3: Write with Impact
A great thank you note has three parts:
1. Specific recognition → Name what they did (“Your feedback on my presentation helped me improve my delivery.”)
2. Impact → Explain how it helped you (“Because of that, I felt more confident and got great feedback from leadership.”)
3. Gratitude → Wrap with appreciation (“I really value your support and just wanted to say thank you.”)
Step 4: Create a Mini-Campaign
🟠Write 1 thank you note per day for a week
🟠Or, set a goal: 3 thank you notes each Friday for a month
Step 5: Reflect
At the end of the challenge, ask yourself:
🟠How did writing these notes make me feel?
🟠Did I notice any changes in my relationships?
🟠Who might I continue to thank regularly moving forward?
Glow-Up Boost:
💡💡Gratitude isn’t just about others—it’s a mirror. The more you acknowledge others’ impact, the more you recognize your own growth and wins, too.
