💫💫 Why this matters!
In STEM, recruiters and hiring managers live on LinkedIn. A clear headline, evidence-based summary, and project highlights can turn quiet profiles into interview invites—especially for new grads and career switchers.
1) Headline (3 minutes) — formulaTarget Role | Domain/Tech | 2–3 Keywords | Proof
Examples:
🔸“Data Analyst | Biotech | SQL • Python • Tableau | 2 dashboards used by 3 teams”
🔸“R&D Associate | Cell Culture & qPCR | GLP • LIMS | 6 validated assays”
2) About/Summary (7 minutes) — 4-part template
🔸Mission: What problem you love solving.
🔸Tools: 6–8 specific skills/tech (spell them out for search).
🔸Receipts: 2–3 credibility nuggets (metrics, awards, publications, internships).
🔸Now/Next: Roles or problems you want to tackle next + value you bring.
Drop-in starter:
I build [X] that helps [Y] do [Z]. My toolkit: [skill/tech list]. Recent wins: [metric-backed results]. I’m currently focused on [problems/domains] and open to [target roles].
3) Experience bullets (5 minutes) — impact > tasksAction verb + what you did + tech + measurable impact
🔸“Automated QC checks using Python/Pandas → cut processing time 38%.”
🔸“Optimized qPCR workflow; reduced reagent waste 22% across 3 assays.”
4) Projects & Featured (3 minutes) — show your work
Pin 2–4 proof points:
🔸GitHub repo/notebook (clean README, results screenshot)
🔸Poster or preprint (add 1-sentence takeaway)
🔸Kaggle/Datacamp certificate with a one-line impact
🔸Short case study: problem → approach → result (1 image + 4 bullets)
5) Keywords & Settings (2 minutes) — be discoverable
🔸Add Skills (50 max): exact terms from target job descriptions.
🔸Set Open to Work (choose titles that match postings).
🔸Customize your profile URL (firstname-lastname-STEM).
This Week’s Challenge
Update your headline and pin one project to Featured.
🔸Then hit reply and paste your headline (or profile link). I’ll gut-check it for clarity and keywords.
