⚙️Master the Science of Scaling: Process Development Associate

A Process Development Associate plays a critical role in helping bring new therapies, vaccines, and biologics from the lab to large-scale production. Their job is to support the design, testing, and optimization of processes used to manufacture pharmaceutical products—ensuring they are scalable, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards like GMP.
They work closely with scientists and engineers to transition products from research & development into clinical and commercial manufacturing, often using data, equipment, and lab experiments to improve yield, reduce cost, and ensure quality.
🎓Major:
- Chemical Engineer, Biochemical Engineer, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other related science degrees.
Job functions:
⚙️⚙️A Process Development Associate takes new therapies and vaccines from the lab and figures out how to make them in large quantities. They design, test, and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure they're scalable, efficient, and meet strict quality standards (like GMP). Some key responsibilities include:
🔎Assist in the design and optimization of upstream (cell culture, fermentation) and/or downstream (purification, filtration) processes
🔎Run small-scale experiments to test variables that impact yield, quality, or process consistency
🔎Collect and analyze data to troubleshoot or improve processes
🔎Prepare documentation such as batch records, protocols, and technical reports
🔎Support tech transfer to manufacturing teams by scaling lab processes to pilot or full production
🔎Operate and maintain lab-scale equipment (bioreactors, chromatography systems, centrifuges, etc.)
🔎Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams
🧠Skills Needed:
Technical:
- Lab experience with cell culture, protein purification, or chemical synthesis
- Familiarity with analytical tools like HPLC, SDS-PAGE, or spectroscopy
- Data analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad, JMP, etc.)
- Understanding of GMP, tech transfer, and scale-up concepts
- Technical writing and documentation

Instead of trying to impress, focus on learning. Ask questions like:

- Offer something useful—an article, an insight, or even encouragement. Your goal is to give before you ask.
